Main Campus
- Bruker In Vivo MicroCT System: Maintenance-free 20-100kV micro-focus X-ray source, automatic 6-position filter changer, 11Mp cooled X-ray camera, continuously variable magnification with smallest pixel size of 2.8 micron. Features an animal bed heater, isoflurane port, on-screen dosimeter, and live vitals monitoring during rodent CT scanning.
- Bose 3200: Tabletop, electromagnetic driven materials testing machine capable of loading up to 250N with an extended 150mm max stroke at frequencies of 300Hz. Its axial setup is used for post-mortem 3 point bending of mouse long bones. Can be equipped with a torque rotational motor for fractured femoral torsion testing applications.
- Bose Electroforce 5500: Compact (less than 16kg), electromagnetic driven materials testing machine capable of loading up to 200N with a 13mm max stroke at frequencies of 20Hz. Can be used for in vivo tibial axial compression experiments.
- Aurora 1300A: 3-in-1 Muscle Testing System: The test system allows for in vivo complete muscle testing of the tibialis anterior or gastrocnemius muscle via a dual-lever force/displacement transducer and high power-biphasic electrode stimulator. The platform and limb plates are temperature-controlled designed to support and fix the animal and limb being tested. The system can be converted to an isolated (in vitro) muscle test system with the attachment of an optional 25mL bath.
• Bruker Skyscan 2214 High-Resolution, Multiscale Nanotomograph. This “NanoCT” allows for imaging of structures with true submicron resolution such as soft tissues, bone osteocytes, dentinal tubules, osteointegration of biomaterials and high-density implants, as well as high-resolution characterization of other biological samples. Its uniquely large field of view allows for the analysis of objects up to 300 mm in size. For objects up to 12 mm in size, it provides better than 500-nanometer true 3D resolution. The achievable voxel size is 60 nanometer. Additionally, it has four different detectors that allow for versatility in imaging a wide variety of samples such as geologic samples, polymers and composites, as well as batteries and fuel cells.
• ThermoFisher ESCALab 250 X-ray photoelectron spectrometer. The ESCALab is multitechnique platform for studying the surface of materials. The instrument is equipped with a 95mm field emission gun for Auger spectroscopy and SEM imaging with a 90nm spatial resolution and a UV photoelectron lamp.
• Scanning electron microscopes and a transmission electron microscope: a Hitachi SU-70 FE-SEM, Zeiss Auriga SEM/FIB, and Zeiss libra 120 TEM. The Hitachi SEM is a field emission unit which allows for a 1nm spatial resolution. The unit also is equipped with a STEM options, a Nabity Lithography System, dedicated backscatter detector, and Genesis EDAX system with low element windows for detection of Be to Pu. The Libra is the Zeiss workhorse microscope which features point to point resolution of 0.34nm. The Zeiss Auriga is a dual beam focused ion beam scanning electron microscope. The instrument features and Genesis EDAX system with low element window and an EBSD detector.
• VEECO ICON atomic force microscope. The ICON features VEECO's latest technology providing AFM with less than a 35pm signal to noise operating in tapping mode. The instrument is capable of operating in multiple modes including lateral force (LFM), magnetic force (MFM), surface potential, scanning capacitance (SCM), Tunneling (TUNA or STM), and conductive (CAFM).
